BFD work with Cambodia's poorest communities to address some of these needs: directly alleviating poverty by providing resources to those in immediate need, and helping the community in the long term by educating and supporting children and young members of communities to develop skills to support their communities future needs.

What does poverty REALLY mean?...

  • * Average  income of less than $1 a day
  • * Few jobs, industry, commercial or business activity
  • * Life expectancy maybe 55 years
  • * Little access to health care or credible hospital care
  • * Irregular food supply, poor nutrition
  • * Insufficient housing, and access to safe drinking water
  • * Majority of children will not finish primary school
  • * Lack of school buildings, teachers, school books, and computers
  • * Lack of transportation, children walk 5 - 10 kilometres a day to get to school
  • $20 a month buys enough rice to feed a family of five for a month . Hunger consumes - passions, minds and bodies. Time and resources. Hungry people don’t have an option; their energies and effort are constrained to the battle to find food.
  • $20 a month will assist families to achieve  secure housing
  • $20 a month will assist a family impacted by HIV to access better health care and to live in more dignified circumstances.
  • $20 a month allows a child to attend school for a month. We will assist the family so that the children don’t have to work at the family farm and can have the opportunity to attend school.
  • $20 a month will provide families with safe and reliable water supply
  • $20 a month can provide village children with bicycles to get to school

You can help even with a small contribution......

Looming problems need urgent attention

Cambodia has a hugely youthful population (approx 70% of population is less than 30 years old, 50% less than 20 years old). Successful engagement of these young people in all aspects of society is critical for Cambodia’s future welfare. Projects linking youth especially rural youth, into formal education, governance, politics and local community development, and into ethical and moral frameworks that support community cohesion are very much needed. These and other new BFD project areas would welcome support from donors.
