BFD looks to educating the future generation as the way ahead for many Cambodian families. Breaking the poverty cycle for countless families will be an outcome of handing children their basic right to a full educational opportunity.
BFD works with and is supported major international agencies Enfant du Mekong and Terres des Hommes whose mission also is to ensure sustainable futures through educating the children and youth of Cambodia.
Our work includes many activities focussed on:
Constructionof schools.Fundingto attend school, School fees, school uniforms, money for school materials and books, bicycles for transportation to schools. Also financial supportto parents so that the children don’t have to stay away from school to work in the field. Healthcareis a high priority especially in HIV/AIDS settings.
Looming problems need urgent attention
Cambodia has a hugely youthful population (approx 70% of population is less than 30 years old, 50% less than 20 years old). Successful engagement of these young people in all aspects of society is critical for Cambodia’s future welfare. Projects linking youth especially rural youth, into formal education, governance, politics and local community development, and into ethical and moral frameworks that support community cohesion are very much needed. These and other new BFD project areas would welcome support from donors.
