BFD's work with Villagers and Farmers is diverse. We look to improving the rural economic sector but at the same time focus on alleviation of poverty through improved livelihoods and income generation activity..
We have been involved in Rice Banks for village food security, and digging Village water ponds for clean water supply.
On the broad scale we work with international partners to achieve development of Farmer Cooperatives. Training and support of families with new farming technologies, earning more income from new crops, pigs, chickens, integrated approaches to farming, market support, micro credit facilities to develop small business.
Looming problems need urgent attention
Cambodia has a hugely youthful population (approx 70% of population is less than 30 years old, 50% less than 20 years old). Successful engagement of these young people in all aspects of society is critical for Cambodia’s future welfare. Projects linking youth especially rural youth, into formal education, governance, politics and local community development, and into ethical and moral frameworks that support community cohesion are very much needed. These and other new BFD project areas would welcome support from donors.
